Job Description
Hainan University is one of the first batch of national "Double First-Class" universities (with world-class disciplines) and a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Hainan Province. Currently, it has 44,000 full-time students, 29 secondary colleges, 16 first-level doctoral programs, 2 professional doctoral programs, 37 first-level master's programs, 28 professional master's categories, 76 undergraduate majors, and 10 postdoctoral research stations. There are 45 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. The disciplines cover philosophy, economics, law, literature, science, medicine, agriculture, engineering, management, art, and other fields. The university has 3,050 full-time teachers, including 81 national-level talents. Oriented to national strategies and local needs of Hainan, the university strives to build a system of advantageous and characteristic disciplines that serve national strategies and support the development of local leading industries in accordance with the standards of "meeting national urgent needs and reaching world-class levels". Adhering to the development concept of "supporting and leading, winning with characteristics, high-level integration, openness and innovation", it has built advantageous discipline clusters around seven major fields: "Free Trade Port Development and Institutional Innovation", "Ecological Civilization", "Culture and Tourism", "Southern Propagation and Tropical High-Efficiency Agriculture", "Marine Science and Technology", "One Health", and "Digital Intelligence Technology". Rooted in Hainan, it is committed to building a comprehensive, research-oriented, and international "Double First-Class" university. In terms of research projects, it obtained 289 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 25 National Social Science Foundation projects in 2024. With Hainan launching a new round of comprehensively deepening reform and opening up, and promoting the construction of Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and China (Hainan) Free Trade Port with Chinese characteristics, Hainan University has ushered in new historical opportunities. As the only national "Double First-Class" university and ministry-provincial co-built university in Hainan, the sole one in China's tropical regions, and the most frontier university facing the South China Sea, Hainan University will focus on serving the overall situation of major national strategies, take root in the construction practice of Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and China (Hainan) Free Trade Port with Chinese characteristics, stick to the discipline construction guideline of "supporting and leading, winning with characteristics, high-level integration, openness and innovation", and faithfully fulfill its missions and responsibilities for the new era. I. Recruiting Disciplines The university currently has 10 postdoctoral research stations: Crop Science, Biology, Ecology, Information and Communication Engineering, Law, Business Administration, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Biomedical Engineering, and Marxist Theory. Postdoctoral openings are available for all second-level disciplines with doctoral awarding qualifications and relevant interdisciplinary fields covered by these stations. II. Recruitment Types The university mainly recruits full-time postdoctoral researchers. Full-time postdoctoral researchers must conduct postdoctoral research on a full-time basis, with their personal files and personnel relations transferred to the university. All postdoctoral positions mentioned herein refer to full-time posts. III. Recruitment Quota and Time In 2025, the university plans to recruit 100 full-time postdoctoral researchers. Outstanding young scholars at home and abroad meeting the criteria are welcome to apply year-round. IV. Postdoctoral Tenure The standard postdoctoral tenure is 2 years. Upon approval, the term may be extended by 1 year due to project cycles or research demands, with a maximum total tenure not exceeding 6 years. V. Application Requirements 1. Possess sound ideological and political qualities and moral integrity; 2. Be physically fit and capable of full dedication to postdoctoral research; 3. Typically, no more than 3 years shall have elapsed since the award of the doctoral degree by the application date; 4. General age cap of 35. In accordance with the Measures for the Implementation of Postdoctoral Management in Hainan Province, the age limit may be relaxed to 40 for applicants to stations in humanities and social sciences, fields tackling bottleneck core technologies, clinical medicine, or candidates who earned their doctorate overseas. VI. Postdoctoral Benefits 1. Annual salary tiers are divided into Type A and Type B; consult the corresponding college for detailed standards (college contact information attached). 2. Full-time postdocs may apply for rental or purchase subsidies at a monthly rate of 3,000 yuan during employment, capped at 36 months total. Actual standards follow the latest Hainan provincial and university policies. 3. Hainan Province offers special research and talent subsidies for postdocs: research grants (150,000 yuan/year, maximum 2 years, subject to application and review), general bonuses (100,000 yuan lump sum via assessment), South China Sea New Star grants (100,000–300,000 yuan upon evaluation), etc. Specific terms abide by the latest provincial policies. 4. During tenure, full-time postdocs enjoy university-standard social insurance, housing provident fund, and schooling access for their children (kindergarten through primary and secondary education). 5. Academic outputs produced during the postdoctoral term qualify for research achievement rewards under the university’s and affiliated schools’ incentive policies. 6. Full-time postdocs may apply for intermediate professional and technical qualification recognition per university regulations while in station. 7. Full-time postdocs with excellent assessment results and distinguished research achievements receive priority for conversion to formal faculty positions. VII. Entry Application Procedures Refer to the Hainan University Postdoctoral Service Handling Guide for the full workflow. 1. Applicants contact intended supervisors for preliminary review and reach an employment intent (supervisor list attached). 2. The host school organizes expert evaluation of research competence and academic level, alongside political and moral vetting. Qualified applicants submit required entry documents to the school, which reviews and forwards materials to the University Postdoctoral Management Office. 3. The University Postdoctoral Management Office reviews materials, submits for institutional approval; successful candidates complete online applications via the national China Postdoctoral Website platform. 4. Once online applications are approved by the Hainan Provincial Postdoctoral Management Office, candidates sign employment agreements with the university and complete official station registration formalities.
